Present Value of the Future Summit
On April 10, 2024, we host the first Present Value of the Future Summit. Inspired by Mr. Rob Vinall’s highly regarded annual meeting in Engelberg, Switzerland, we organized the half-day event with roughly 50 people. We picked a very unique venue in the middle of nowhere in Shanghai. It was a part of the unfinished residential development site of C&D International, a HK-listed developer, to experience the feeling of China’s frail property market.
We had roughly 50 investors, including family offices, endowments, foundations, and investment managers, as well as our friend and special guest, Mr. Malcolm Clarke, who has won Oscar Awards twice so far. Malcolm shared his successful story as a film director and his memory with his late friend, Mr. Henry Kissinger, who convinced him to come back to China to make a film to unite China and the United States back in 2016. Mr. Vinall shared about Malcolm’s work in his “My 2024 Postcard from China”.
As we have a strict Chatham House Rule for this event, we cannot discuss issues we discussed during the event. Still, our guests enjoyed the open discussion environment on various important topics. One of our guests, Mr. Dennis Hong, shared his experiences on his LinkedIn (see below).
Next Summit
We decided to host the next Summit on Saturday, 16 November 2024, in Shanghai. To cover the cost, we will collect the registration fee of HKD 1500. The format will be slightly different this time. Each session is organized with a 20-minute presentation and 50-minute small group discussions (5-6 people). The members of the groups in the morning will be different in the afternoon, so you will have opportunities to learn and share with new people.
We consider this as an educational, not networking, program. You are expected to share your opinions with others although you may not be “experts”.
